In April 2015, we were awarded funding from Dumfries & Galloway Council’s Nithsdale Area Committee to draw together an action plan for Moniaive and Glencairn based on our work in the community so far. Read the executive summary below, or click here to download the full Glencairn and Moniaive Action Plan.
This Action Plan has been put together by Moniaive Initiative (SCIO), the community anchor organisation for Glencairn, to show current work being undertaken and the future direction of our projects and organisation. It contains a community snapshot based on Scotland Census 2011, and highlights of our research, carried out by surveys, questionnaires and workshops since our formation in 2014. Our work has demonstrated that there is both appetite and need for projects over a broad range of issues, including empty buildings, housing, infrastructure, facilities and communication of ideas and information within the community. This document will be updated on a regular basis to reflect our priorities based on our growing body of work within the community. These currently include:
- Specialist housing for older people, housing help for families and younger people and sharing information on housing.
- Creation of adaptable and accessible community spaces, encouraging use of facilities and securing the future of our facilities and buildings.
- Regeneration of High Street area, improving the look of buildings, encouraging use of empty buildings and improving accessibility
- Ensuring our community remains attractive and vibrant, encouraging community involvement, improving sustainability of local organisations.
In 2020 we are being funded by Scottish Governments Investing in Communities Fund to re-visit this document, and to carry out a new wave of community Consultation to inform our decisions as we develop new projects to move forward from this plan.
