Introducing Stephen

We would like to introduce Stephen Connelly, who will be working with Moniaive Initiative and Glencairn Community Council for the next six months on developing the Glencairn Local Place Plan.  Stephen has a Master’s degree in Forestry & its Relation to Land Use, and a PhD on public involvement in planning for sustainable development. His academic career, specialising in environmental policy, sustainable development, and local democracy, led him into working alongside voluntary and statutory organisations to advise on stakeholder engagement.  He has also served as a trustee for environmental and educational non-governmental organisations, and as a director of a social enterprise. Stephen lives in Dalry, where he has worked with the team developing the Dalry Local Place Plan. He is currently an Independent Trustee of Glenkens & District Trust.

Water, Walks & Trees!

Moniaive Initiative will be at the GLW&T AGM next Monday to discuss Water, Walks & Trees.

Bring along your own maps (old or new!) or take a look at ours – we want to discuss what is still here, what is lost, and what we could do to restore vital landscape features in the year ahead.

Galloway National Park Consultation now open

NatureScot has now launched their formal Consultation into the proposal for a new National Park in Galloway.  Glencairn does not lie within the three proposed boundary options. However, we understand that there is concern around the impact that a new National Park could have on our area.

As a neighbouring resident or business, or as a regular visitor to the area of the proposed parks, your views are important. The consultation is open until 14 February 2025, and we urge you to visit the website and complete a Questionnaire (-there are separate Questionnaires for individuals and for key stakeholders). You can find those here:

Have you enjoyed the Netball?

This Sunday (24th Nov) is the last taster session of netball. If you haven’t had the chance to come along yet, don’t worry as we will be running a further 3 sessions, with the last session due to end on 15th December for the Christmas holidays.

This has been a popular session for both netball skills and laughter.

Sign up or pop along on Sunday at the GMI 6pm and see for yourself.
