GMAP 2022-2027

In 2019 we started working with the Scottish Government’s Investing in Communities Fund to commence a new phase of local engagement, resulting in the publication of our Glencairn and Moniaive Action Plan 2022-27.

This identifies potential actions across seven core themes:

Sustainable Transport – aims to improve road safety, and to increase the use of sustainable transport options, including walking, cycling, e-vehicles, community transport and public transport.

Community Land Access – aims to support local groups and organisations to increase land access for various purposes, including food growing, woodland creation, flood mitigation, biodiversity support and leisure use; to improve awareness of SOAC, and the responsibilities which come with land management and land access; and to promote opportunities for community and shared land management.

Flooding & Resilience – aims to support the collection, collation and dissemination of emergency information, including advice literature; and to participate in a community response to the D&G / SEPA Moniaive Flood Review scheduled for 2025-28.

Economic Regeneration – aims to support local business; to encourage community-led tourism, particularly for day visitors; to improve our circular economy; and to link personal Health & Wellbeing to community economic resilience.

Heritage & Culture – aims to create a Community Heritage Plan and improved local heritage interpretation; to support local events organisations to increase their resilience; and to expand the provision of cultural events, skills and learning opportunities.

Renewable Energy – aims to disseminate of Energy Advice in support of a wider community transition to low carbon and Zero Carbon energy systems; and to investigate options for community-owned Renewable energy generation

Affordable Housing – aims to monitor the local housing market with a view to increasing the provision of affordable housing for target groups (families and young singles); to encourage and promote carbon reduction in the housing sector through retro-fitting of old housing stock and wider use of passiv-haus / low carbon principles in new builds.
