Another exciting walk, brought to you as part of our preparations for the Nithraid on 15 August. This is a FREE event and everyone is welcome. Highly recommended for anyone planning to join us for the Nithraid banner making sessions.

Brought to you as part of our preparations for the Nithraid on 15 August, we will be holding a guided walk next Saturday. This is a FREE event and everyone is welcome. This will also be a great info-gathering opportunity for anyone wishing to join us for the Nithraid banner making sessions next Tuesday (14th) and Thursday (16th).

We would like Moniaive to take part in a parade through Dumfries as part of the NITHRAID on 15 August 2026.
We are looking for volunteers to help us design and make a banner to be carried in that parade. We want to use mostly-upcycled fabrics to create a ‘trade union style’ banner to highlight our place in the Nith catchment.
We will be holding scoping sessions in early July (11th/12th), including a guided walk with Moniaive’s Antoine Lemaire. These aim to teach us a little bit more about the rivers in our area. They should give us some ideas of some of the local features we could include on the banner.
Then we will start creating a textile banner during four hands-on sessions, supported by textile artist Elizabeth Stephenson. These sessions will take place on 14th, 16th, 21st and 23rd July, and will be a mix of afternoon and evening sessions. We will provide everything needed to enable the group to create a banner to represent Moniaive.
You don’t need to commit to all of the sessions – we are happy to include volunteers who can only make one or two sessions. So if you have a bit of time free in July, enjoy nature and drawing or sewing / textiles, then this could be the project for you!
If you are interested in joining us, please drop us a line at

We will put you on our emailing list so you get all the details once our sessions are finalised.
We are pleased to announce the Glencairn Community Council have awarded us £1600 from the wind farm fund to renovate the Moniaive Phone Box, which is now owned by the community. Work will begin soon.
If you have any suggestions as to what you would like the phone box to be used for please contact us via Facebook, our website http://www.Moniaive Initiative.org.uk or email moniaiveinitiative@gmail.com, or you can just drop your comments in at the Hive!
